- The always astute Jackson Hole activist Pete Muldoon opines on the public sector’s often undeserved bad rap. He does not mention the impending restructuring of the Housing Authority, but I find it a good primer for those who will participate in this upcoming discussion.
- Also in the Planet this week is vintage Jake Nichols, who digs deep to tell the real story of all the increasing numbers of foreign workers who find themselves in Jackson Hole. Written before this week’s death of one such worker, it is prescient.
- Dave Hannagan, who died earlier this week in an avalanche while skiing just south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, is remembered fondly in this in-depth story in his hometown paper in Australia.
- This is a fascinating and important story on WyoFile by Matthew Copeland about the case against an environmental activist who collected water samples on private land. Combines water issues with public vs. private lands, and raises lots of questions.
- The Mountain Grumble grumbles the query “What’s 400 times larger than Smith’s?” to make the point that the pace of building large second homes in the last few decades has negatively impacted the availability of workforce housing than the relatively few hotels that have been built.
- This sturdy travel story about skiing in Jackson Hole was made more enjoyable for me by reading it with an English accent, just like it was written I assume by its London Evening Standard author.
