Jackson Hole and Wyoming links:
- Frederick Reimers interviews four Jackson Hole residents with a wide range of incomes on how they get by in “the world’s most expensive ski town” for this Outside Online article.
- Do you suffer from ARSe, like me? Read this article by Marc Peruzzi in Outside Online to see if you have Anxious Recreation Syndrome. Therapists are standing by.
- This Jeff Leger profile on Teton Gravity Research contains many words of wisdom from one of Jackson Hole’s best ski bums. Best line from writer Julie Kukral: “Now, over two decades later, Jeff skis around 6.5 days a week and is still learning how to be a better skier.” When you’re done reading it, check out Leger’s alter-ego, Dr. Huckinstuff, on Vimeo for some amazing, and hilarious, footie.
- Vogue has decided that Jackson Hole is vogue enough for a deep travel article on what they refer to as “Neverland” (that’s what they claim us locals call it, which I cannot confirm but won’t disagree with).
- U.S. Ski Teamer Resi Stiegler has had yet another strong season on the World Cup circuit, but took a big fall at last week’s Squaw Valley World Cup and the video went viral after she came to a rest and started smashing her ski pole into the snow.
- If there’s one question I hear over and over from my faithful readers, it’s “Brian, how can you be so damn funny?” (old Steve Martin joke) The second thing I get asked, is, “What’s the latest on Apoc-Eclipse 2017?” Thanks for asking, and “eclipse master” Fred Espenak has your super-sciency answer on EarthSky.org.
- Todd Wilkinson’s latest “New West” column asks THE question these days about the direction of this country and how to shape it, which I think is particularly important for those of us in deep red states. “Statesmen and stateswomen we all know are letting it happen and they ought to be ashamed.”
