Jackson Hole and Wyoming links:
- More than 690,000 acres of Wyoming public lands may be on the auction block if a bill introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives becomes law, reports Angus Thuermer in WyoFile.
- Local ski writer Matt Hansen plays the role of Captain Obvious (well, at least if you have been here for the last few months and have a sore back from all the shoveling), writing in Powder Magazine that “Winter is relentless in Jackson Hole.”
- Apparently winter also is relentless in Japan, where Allie Rood is enjoying ridiculous deepness on her birthday for the second year in a row, and she has the video to prove it.
- After more than 25 years skiing and photographing skiers at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort I’ve seen Corbet’s Couloir skied more than a few times. This guy from New Zealand’s recent send may be the best of them all, and apparently it was his first time down the chute. Dude.
- Jackson Hole Mountain Resort takes the top spot on a list of … “underrated” ski resorts? How could the perennial No. 1 resort in North America be underrated? Well, says Huffington Post, because most people don’t know that about 50 percent of the terrain is not expert.
- Melvin Brewing, owned by Jackson Hole restaurateur Jeremy Tofte, has hired the well-traveled and highly successful Ted Whitney as national sales director. Look for even bigger things for this local, up-and-coming brewery born in Jackson Hole and now living in Alpine in the coming years.
- Lynsey Dyer reveals what backcountry girls say in this hilarious video with great visuals from actual backcountry adventures. It’s the sequel to the equally hilarious “shit girl skiers say,” which is also available at this SkiMag.com page.
- And now for something completely different … winter fishing! Neither snow, nor ice, nor freezing rain keeps Matthew Copeland from “Stalking the Seam,” as his great outdoor blog is called. Go for the story, stay for the pictures.
